The use of “mini-publics,” in which small groups of citizens are randomly selected to speak to important issues facing a community, is a growing method for facilitating meaningful discussions on community values across communities. In this article, London School of Economics researcher Marta Wojciechowska describes how these methods can be helpful for democratic deliberation if organizers carefully ensure that underrepresented voices are included in these discussions.
